Offered here is a small EMPTY tin. It reads in
part: “BANQUET…P.F. JAPAN (UNCOLORED) TEA.” (On both sides, there is a
small paint rub next to the letter “P.” – it could also be the an “R”?)
It continues: “McCORMICK & CO…BALTIMORE U.S.A…AWARDED GOLD
MEDAL: PANAMA PACIFIC EXPOSITION 1915 – JAMESTOWN EXPOSITION 1907.” One
side pictures a teapot that could be ordered from the company. The can
measures just 3 & 1/3 inches tall. (About the size of an average spice tin.) The base is 1 & 7/8 inches square.
It originally contained just 1
& 1/8 ounces of tea.
The
condition is GOOD. It has a few scattered paint rubs and scratches. It
still has the original pry-open lid. It seems to be pretty rare. While I
was able to find several OTHER McCormick tea tins, I could not find
another example of THIS tin in my online searching. I think this was
made around the 1920’s – give or take. It is guaranteed to be old &
original, or your money back.
