This 1963 Studebaker Avanti is a unique, fun to drive and beautifully restored classic car with California history. The Avanti was designed by famed automobile designer, Raymond Loewy, in a very short 40-day timeframe and was the first new body style for Studebaker since the early 50s. The car was intended to be a performance-oriented, luxury automobile. Taking design influences from the European cars at the time, the Avanti had smooth body lines, an under bumper air intake, and plush interiors. The wedge shaped design of Studebaker’s Avanti yielded a car with an aerodynamic look and feel. Perhaps the most significant design choice for the Avanti was its fiberglass body, which made the cars much lighter than most other cars of the era and marked only the second time an American auto manufacturer had a fiberglass-bodied car. This particular ’63 Avanti comes to us from a California-based collector who spent a great deal restoring this beauty. Under the hood on this Studebaker is an R-1 289 Cubic Inch V8 engine paired with a single 4 barrel carburetor that pushed out 240 horsepower in its day. Anybody can take this Avanti for a spin around the block because the 289 R1 V8 is hooked up to an Automatic transmission. Being that Avantis were luxury cars in their day, many of them, including this one, came loaded with options. With Power Brakes, bringing this Studebaker Avanti to a full stop is made much easier. Power steering simplifies getting in and out of tight spaces and improves the overall drivability of the car as well. Being that this Avanti is an R-1, it is equipped with factory air conditioning so that you can stay cool even on the hottest summer days. The exterior of this Studebaker Avanti has been refinished in beautiful Avanti White paint which gives the car an elevated European look. This Avanti sits on 4 whitewall radial tire with full Avanti wheelcovers, giving this car a fantastic looking and smooth driving automobile. The interior on this classic Studebaker is gorgeous! The front bucket seats and rear bench seat have been reupholstered in red vinyl and they have a fantastic look. The door panels and center console were re-covered in matching red vinyl as well and have the Regal trim look. The dash is in its stock configuration and is equipped with a 140 MPH speedometer, 6,000 RPM tachometer, amp gauge, temperature gauge, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, vacuum pressure gauge, and clock. Whether you’re looking for your very first classic car or you have a garage full of Studebakers, this 1963 Studebaker Avanti would make an excellent choice. Give us a call today!
